How to hide ip: My Review of The Free VPN Service freeusvpn.com |
My Review of The Free VPN Service freeusvpn.com Posted: 13 Jul 2011 10:52 PM PDT
Anyway, I decided to put one service to the test, and take the risk so that hide-my-ip.info users won't have to do it. Fair enough? So let's get into testing the service provided by http://freeusvpn.com/ When I landed on their homepage, I saw a lot of Ads that are a bit distracting. They've got to monetize this "freebie" in one way or another so I already expected this ad invasion. As a fine line, they also tell you that they provide a "premium" package: so the freebie is mainly used so that you test their service and eventually buy their premium package. Anyway, I decided to try their service. I was looking for a package installer – you know- I'm supposed to be a regular user after all, I expect things to be easy to setup. Unfortunately, after filtering out the ads, I found out that I'm given the technical details for using their services – the provider expects me to find out a way to configure it. Not only should I know how to configure a PPTP connection on my computer, but it's also mentioned that the credentials provided to me are changed every 12 hours and that I need to check back often for the new credentials so as to keep my connection. Ok, let's roll up our sleeves, have some drink and get this VPN connection up and running. For the test, I am running on Windows 7 home premium (which is IMHO the most common operating system used by regular users out there, I'm almost sure this won't work with any Windows Starter netbook owners). Freeusvpn.com gave me the following informations for configuring my VPN service:
PPTP Username: free
Doesn't it look intimidating for most of regular users? Anyway, let's see how to configure it on our windows machine. So as not to lose our focus, I invite you to check this article for explanations on how to use these informations for configuring a PPTP connection on Windows 7 So let's say that we could get the PPTP connection up and running – frankly speaking, without an installer, you've got to be ready to spend long times trying to figure out if your credentials are ok, if your firewall isn't blocking some ports, if you have to run any program in an elevated administrator mode, if … A lot of conditions that you have to check. Anyway, stay tuned as I'm still working on making the PPTP connection work, then I can tell you how the freeusvpn.com service is performing. To be continued … Post from: How to hide ip Related Posts:

Hide Your IP to Avoid Getting Tracked Posted: 13 Jul 2011 09:26 PM PDT There are many reasons why you might want to hide your IP when you are on the Web. Many websites have the capability of monitoring your activity every time you visit their website and with this information, they can send you personalized ads or other local information. If you are like me, this may not provide the full user experience you might want. There are a number of choices available that you can implement to hide your online identity and enjoy that anonymous user experience. Anonymous Downloaders If you frequently download files on P2P file sharing sites, then your Internet Service Provider can easily track and shut you down. P2P friendly services like The Cloak, A4Proxy and Anonymizer.com are tools that you can use to keep your computer's IP anonymous and still allow you to use your broadband connection to download these files without the fear of being tracked. While most of these services come at a small fee, they are worth the price tag if anonymity is of utmost importance in your online activities. Email and Web Surfing For one reason or another, mostly political, you may wish to air your ideals online while remaining anonymous to avoid retribution. Most Internet Service Providers can easily monitor your web surfing activities and emails if they want to. However, by use of free proxy servers that are distributed all over the Web, you can protect your freedom. By combining proxy servers with email scrambling services, which can also be located online by doing a simple Google search, even intercepted emails will still remain anonymous effectively giving you Internet freedom of expression and communication. Other things that you can do protect yourself is to use cookie management software, use encryption when sending personal details online, avoid responding to spam mails and be conscious of Web Security by installing anti-spyware and an updated anti-virus.
