Facebook is currently rolling out access to its new Places feature to the Facebook for iPhone app and touch.facebook.com. Those with access can check in to nearby locations, view a stream of check-ins by friends, and add new Places for anyone to be able to check-in to. Those whose accounts haven't been granted access can still use the iPhone app to view check-ins of friends. Everyone can currently see check-ins from friends in their news feeds, and edit their Places privacy settings.

Access to Facebook Places is restricted to US IP addresses. As for any other similiar problems, this can be faked by connecting to a US VPN account.

Despite relying on GPS to determine what Places you are nearby, GPS is not part of the Places authentication process which disqualifies foreign users.

Here is a short guide on how to access Places from outside US:

Use a phone which can add a VPN configuration such as an iPhone. iPhone users can change VPN settings by going to Settings -> General -> Network -> VPN.
Connect to a US VPN account through Hotspot Shield, HideIpVPN, StrongVPN, ibVPN or other VPN services that offer access to US servers.
Download the US version of Facebook for iPhone or visit touch.facebook.com.
Click the Places icon or Places tab.
